The second half presents shorter works by Sergei Rachmaninoff, in performances described by Die Welt’s Manuel Brug as “pure magic … as if wonderfully eavesdropped, sensitive and distinguished from one another with rare refinement”. The recital concludes with three encores, Rachmaninoff’s first Oriental Sketch, Chopin’s evocative C sharp minor Nocturne and one of Moszkowski’s scintillating Etudes de Virtuosité.
