The programme begins with Beethoven, a Rondo followed by the uncompromising “Appassionata” Sonata. The second half presents shorter works by Sergei Rachmaninoff, in performances described by Die Welt’s Manuel Brug as “pure magic … as if wonderfully eavesdropped, sensitive and distinguished from one another with rare refinement”.
